What is life? What we define as life, according to several dictionaries and web browsers, is:
"the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death."
Using this definition, there are many sizes and types of life. These are the layers of life, from the biggest classifications to the smallest arrangement of proteins.
The biosphere (All Life on Earth)
Ecosystems: Lots of different species and types of life working together
Communities: A group of different species in a common space in a common ecosystem
Populations: All of a singular species in an ecosystem
Organisms: Individual multicellular beings.
Organ Systems, which contain organs
Organs, things with specific purposes in a multicellular being to help it survive.
Tissues: cells combined to form a larger piece of life.
Cells are the smallest thing classified as life.
Organelles are organs of cells. Basically, smaller organs, but for your cells.
