There are eight main factors that define life and set living things (like you, me, and the giant mold colony growing in your lunch (don't ask)) and nonliving things (like plastic bottles, rubber balls, and the 300KG anvil about to smash through your roof (again, don't ask)) apart. They are:
All living things are made out of cells. Cells are tiny units of life that make their own energy and can build up giant organisms like you.
All living things reproduce. Reproduction helps keep a population healthy by replacing individuals who die with new ones.
All living things move. Sometimes, this movement is not obvious, such as in plants; however, plants move my transporting water up their stems
