The coordinate plane is a 2D plane, which is like a piece of paper with grids on it. On an empty coordinate plane, there would be an endless grid and at the center, a point called the origin. The origin is marked as O or (0, 0). What's (0, 0)? It's a way of marking where a point is on the coordinate plane. Going vertically and horizontally from the origin are the y axis and x axis. The x axis is normally used in functions as an input, or default variable. The Y axis in the vertical axis, and normally the output or dependent variable in functions. As shown in picture (left), there is line AB, A being (using coordinate notation): (-3,1), and point B being (3,3). Together, when turned into a continuous graph, it passes the first, second, and third quadrants.

QUADRANTS
The Quadrants are the four pieces of the grid that the x and y axis divides the graph into.
Quadrant I (1): Top right, (positive, positive), ex. (2,3)
Quadrant II (2): Top left, (negative, positive), ex (-2, 3)
Quadrant III (3): Bottom left, (negative, negative), ex (-2,-3)
Quadrant IV (4): Bottom right, (positive, negative), ex (2, -3)
